+ Whakaata Māori Presents: The WBSC Men's Softball World Cup
In December 2022, the Men's Softball World Cup action was, for the first time ever, hosted by an Indigenous Broadcaster. All of the Black Sox games were live free-to-air on Whakaata Māori (previously known as Māori TV) and the entire tournament was available FREE to stream on MĀORI+.
And, we had a big part to play in it!
With the creative direction from the Whakaata Māori Production team, and our incredible photographer EMediaNZ behind the lens, we attended the production shoot, and used the graphics made to:
+ design the hero campaign image
+ design digital banners
+ design billboards
+ create social media template graphics
We then worked with printers and media to organise:
+ radio: ad libs, 30" ads and promotional material with MaiFM
+ clappers for the game days
+ activation tent merch for game days
+ phrase book with common softball phrases translated to te reo māori
We enjoyed working alongside the Whakaata Māori team, and from the tari for a few days a week while the campaign was in full swing & look forward to more opportunities to work together in the future!
+ billboards
+ This was a national campaign, and the media budget extended to digital billboards across the country - including a large digital billboard in view of the Beehive down in Wellington.
There were various sizes for this campaign - as you can see in the images on the side - including landscape, portrait and square. The creative messaging was also updated for coming soon, daily countdown and an on now message.
The comms with media to deliver the correct creative for the correct dates, was all in a days work!
+ event activation
The event activation tent live at the WBSC Men's Softball World Cup was a chill out tent, including sunscreen, water and a live softball quiz for attendees to enjoy. We also designed and organized printing for flags, pull up banners, and our favourite pieces (shown below):
+ branded clappers for everyone in the crowd to enjoy
+ a te reo translation of common softball phrases in the #softballkīanga playbook
